The nights grow longer. The veil grows thin.
It started because I couldn't find the clothes I actually wanted to wear.
I've always liked Halloween, horror, old movies, strange stories, creepy artwork, and the kind of stuff that reminds you of walking through a video store in the 90s or trick-or-treating after dark when you were a kid.
I could find pieces of that here and there, but I could never quite find the shirts I had pictured in my head.
Eventually I stopped looking for them.
I started making them myself.
I'd sit down at the computer, open Photoshop, make something I liked, put it on a shirt, and wear it.
There wasn't a business plan behind it. I wasn't trying to build the next giant clothing company. I was just making things for myself because I couldn't find them anywhere else.
Then people started asking about them.
“Where did you get that shirt?”
I heard that enough times that eventually I figured I should create a place where other people could get the designs too.
Of course, once I started making shirts for myself, it didn't stay that way for very long.
My daughter wanted some Halloween shirts of her own.
She didn't necessarily want all the same dark, creepy stuff I was making for myself. She wanted the fun side of Halloween too — ghosts, pumpkins, candy, costumes, bright colors, and all the stuff that makes October feel enormous when you're a kid.
So I started making those too.
That's why Blackthorne Hollow doesn't fit perfectly into one particular style.
Some of it is horror. Some of it is creepy. Some of it is weird. Some of it is fun. And some of it exists simply because my daughter wanted a Halloween shirt and I thought it would be fun to make one for her.
Mixed through all of it is the stuff I remember — old Halloween decorations, horror movies, video stores, cheap plastic masks, trick-or-treating after dark, Saturday morning cartoons, haunted houses, urban legends, and all those little things that somehow stuck with us.
I don't have a thousand employees. There's no massive warehouse, corporate office, design department, or boardroom somewhere deciding what Blackthorne Hollow should make next.
It's me, a shirt press, a computer with Photoshop on it, and whatever idea happens to be stuck in my head that day.
I'm not interested in filling the shop with hundreds of random designs just because something happens to be trending this week.
If I wouldn't wear it, put it in my house, give it to my daughter, or genuinely enjoy making it, it probably doesn't belong here.
Blackthorne Hollow wasn't created to throw a few graphics online, make a quick dollar, and disappear.
I actually enjoy doing this. I like designing things. I like experimenting with ideas. I like building this weird little world around them.
Other people seem to like it too.
It's part clothing shop, part Halloween obsession, part nostalgia project, and whatever else the Hollow turns into along the way.
It's a collection of things we like, things we remember, and things I wanted to make real.
There are things hiding in the darkness. Move your flashlight across the Hollow and see what you can find.
Some things can only be seen when your light passes over them.
